Tutoring Programs

OASIS Intergenerational Tutoring

OASIS tutors are mentors and friends to children who are learning to read. Through the OASIS Intergenerational Tutoring Program, volunteers, schools and OASIS work together to help young children build reading skills and positive attitudes toward learning.

Tutors receive 12 hours of initial training, and continuing support through regular tutor meetings where they can share experiences, solve problems, and build friendships.

Volunteers have expressed great satisfaction in being able to make a positive difference. One OASIS tutor writes about her experience:
"I believe this program is rewarding for both me and my student. I can really see the improvement in her reading, maturity, and social skills!"
Since 1989, OASIS tutors have helped more than 210,000 children learn to read. The program is available in more than 100 school districts.
More tutors are needed! OASIS tutoring is needed in HAZELWOOD SCHOOL DISTRICT AND IN ST. LOUIS ARCHDIOCESAN SCHOOLS!
